Hey readers, look how handsome I am! |
Henry is just at the beginning of being a really fun age. And a really fun (and funny!) baby.
I won't lie. That "fourth trimester" business rocked me. And by that, I mean smacked me in the face and took a shovel to the back of my head. I had NO IDEA what I was in for with this mommy business! There isn't a way to describe how desperate you feel when you're going on three hours of sleep... For weeks on end. When your time is so demanded by a little one that you don't have time to eat, or use the bathroom, much less take a shower. No, I was completely unprepared for how much WORK a newborn was. Even though if asked, I would tell you that we "hung out all day" which sounds quite relaxing and peaceful! Trust me, it wasn't.
Thigh rolls and chin dimples! |
The memory of this is still quite fresh in my mind. And we even have some fourth trimester-ish days around here. So why, in the name of all that is holy, do I already want to have another baby?!?! What is wrong with me?! Not only was the first three months of Henry's life a tough transition for me, but I absolutely hated being pregnant. I was sick the whole time. I had preterm labor and bed rest. It was nine months of garbage!
Burp burp |
So why do I want to do it again? There was a pregnant woman in my barre class over the weekend and I thought, "Awwweeee!! Look at that belly. I want a belly too!" Never minding the fact that I do indeed still have a belly that hasn't recovered from Henry yet. It's just full of squish as opposed to baby.
I've determined babies are like crack. Their sweet little baby faces, and big baby tummies, and cute little baby feet, and precious little baby smiles. I don't understand how people have only one! Gimme some more baby crack!!
And no, this is not a baby announcement on my end. Nor a "we're going for #2!" announcement. Just a confession. Hi, my name is Paige, and I'm a baby crack addict.

Aw he's so cute! I especially love how relaxed babies look while sleeping :) I can't imagine how tough/exhausting/exciting it all is. Glad you can at least make yourself coffee now, I would say that's an essential start to the day
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes, coffee is mandatory. And lots of it! :)
DeleteYour little guy is so cute! Glad you are able to make a cup of coffee now. Enjoy this exciting new time and experiencing all the fun moments with him :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I post a disgusting amount of photos of him... But he's just so precious! And getting more and more fun by the day.
DeleteOH!!!! Maybe we're twins!!!! I almost didn't survive my THIRD baby's "fourth trimester" and didn't do much better with the others. And yet I have three and a stepdaughter...
ReplyDeleteJill, we're twins for sure! What is it about these little babies that are so addicting... Even in the midst of all the challenges and lack of sleep!?! Ahhhhh, insanity!
DeleteThey are biologically engineered to convince otherwise rational people that making more of them is a good idea. And they're good at their jobs! :)
ReplyDeleteSkye, that is SO true! Ha!
DeleteI too am a baby crack addict--I'm not even a mom, yet (nor do I plan to be in the next few years). I could smell a baby's head for HOURS and not get tired of it. Why are they so dang sweet?!
ReplyDeleteBtw--I'm glad the 4th trimester end is in sight for you. I know it feels good to be able to come up for air after so long.
I'm pretty sure I smell my son's head and rub his peach fuzz no fewer than 836 times a day. It's the BEST :)
DeleteHaha! I was the same way! I got baby fever again fairly quickly after our son was born. They are definitely like crack! ;)

Isn't it just crazy when you have a little one and all you can think is, "NO! I need more! I need more now!" Even though you're exhausted with the one you have... Oh, babies!
DeleteI could have written these same words myself over a year ago when my little one was in the 4th trimester. I loved the part about hanging out all day...
ReplyDeleteExactly - why is "doing nothing" all day with an infant so dang hard?! Thanks for stopping by my blog, Court!
Deletehaha with my first I never had an urge for another, but yet another just magically happened (20 months later.. opps) However baby number 2 is such a different baby that I do actually feel urges for another sweet little one. luckily I have many new babies close by I can get my fix with!
ReplyDeleteIt's like babies start to behave themselves and be all sweet, and the crack addiction kicks right in! I wish the crack-repellant of sleepless nights was stronger...
DeleteThat is why my mother had 6 and my sister had 3 and I'm convinced she is not done....the itch for me is definitely there.....I mean look at that face and those legs!
ReplyDeleteYour mom had 6 and your sis is at 3+?! Oh, you're done for! ;)
DeleteWhat a cutie!! My niece is a little over 4 months so not that I'm the one stayin up with her but I get to hear all about it from my SIL. and Hi, my name is Kelsey and my niece has addicted my to baby crack as well. (though I'm far from havin my own.....) lol
ReplyDeleteI hear being an auntie is the best because you can hand them back to mom and avoid the late night feedings... Watch out, I thought I was a few years out from a baby, then SURPRISE!! :)
DeleteHi Paige! I too am a baby crack addict! I love their smell, their giggles (you just wait it is the most amazing sound on the planet), their feet, tthe way they only want mommy when they are super sleepy. One of my favorite moments is when you see your baby for the first time. It's love at first sight and the most amazing surprise. I don't think I will ever get enough. Btw I finally posted my liebster award post today!

Yes yes yes; ALL of those things make me baby-obsessed!
DeleteOh my lanta I know exactly how you feel! I totally feel crazy as well. I think my guy must be just a week or so older than Henry. And I totally have baby fever again already. It's crazy! Henry sure is a cutie :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jess! Yeah, H was born on May 16, so he's just a bit older than your little sweetie!
DeleteHi Paige,
ReplyDeleteYour baby is so much cute! It's just full of squish as opposed to baby :)
Thank you Paige for sharing this interesting story.
Read about the best infant car seat reviews. Thanks!
Slide your baby's chest on your upper hand and hold her upper arm firmly between thumb and forefinger. Now place your strong hand, the "seat hand", between your baby's legs to support his abdomen. Maniežai Kūdikiams
