Travel Texas: Fredricksburg

When you think "Texas" do you think tumble weeds blowing in the wind, cactus, cowboy boots, over-sized highway passes and guns?

You might. But you'd be wrong. Way, way wrong.

Hubs and I ventured out to Hill Country this past weekend for a quick getaway. We stayed in downtown Austin, but spent the day traveling an hour out to Fredricksburg. There also happens to be some of the most beautiful wineries I've ever seen, and my reference for comparison is Napa Valley.

It. Is. Gorgeous.

It's a historic downtown with a charming, bustling main street. Every shop was lively and booming, and every parking spot was full (we somehow managed to snag one in the heart of downtown, at the strike of noon. Lucky ones, we were!).

The shops range from stereotypical cowboy, Wild West-ern apparel to organic, bamboo baby clothes. There's a local brewery that's been in business for over 20 years and wine shops from the area wineries. There's beautiful local sandstone buildings and classic, 1800's brick and mortar with wrap-around front porches.

Fredricksburg has cute B&B's to stay in as well as hotels. Or, you could do what we did and stay in Austin, about an hour and 10 minutes (with traffic) drive away. A scenic, beautiful drive to boot, full of additional antique and treasure shops!

After you check out all the shops, there's a Pacific War museum, parks, and winery after winery where you can smell, sample and taste all the flavors of the Texan soil.

Of course, this IS Texas. There is a little Western flavor to be had, even in the midst of a beautiful historic town!

Just outside Fredricksburg, TX, one can find plenty of Western treasures!

And pass a truck full of longhorns.

Baby Style: Moccasins! from EnchantedLilly

Have y'all seen those adorable moccasins on some babies? Perhaps even in some of my pics on Instagram or this here blog of Henry? Loooooove putting lil' mocc's on my lil' baby!

My SIL introduced me to how flippin' adorable baby moccs are. They're soft enough for babies to wear when they're not yet walking yet sturdy enough to hold up to full-out-walker-baby status.

A handful of companies make baby moccasins, but my favorite is EnchantedLilly (found on Etsy). Not only are its styles on point and each pair is custom made for your kiddo, but they're half the cost of other baby mocc makers. HALF the cost! Same quality, better service and yet somehow priced at a point that doesn't make my jaw drop to the floor (EnchantedLilly's moccs start at $30; competitive brands start at $60).

They come in tons of colors. Suede, leather, studded, metallic or embellished.

I reached out to Sarah at EnchantedLilly, who was so sweet, and she hooked Henry up with a rad pair of red leather moccs. I was so happy with the service and quality of these cute little booties!

5 Random Truths

The ever sweet Tracy over at A Change Of Pace tagged me in a "10 random facts about me" post on Instagram and, being the loser that I am, I haven't had time to participate. #bloggerfail

I thought I'd make it up to her (and of course, all of you, since I know y'all are DYING to know random facts about your girl Paige, right? <<insert self-depreciating sarcasm>>)

I'm mixing up the rules, making a blog post about it over an IG pic, and cutting it down to 5 things as opposed to 10. So what, I can't follow rules to save my life.

1) I hate wearing socks. Hate is a strong word, but it fits here. I hate everything about socks. They don't feel good. They're not cozy. They're just awkward and itchy and pinchy and my inner-flower-child would rather be barefoot.

2) Henry loves him some slow jam hiphop. The kid could be screaming and fussing in the car, and if I put on Ginuwine's "Pony" he's instantly happy. In fact, I see his toes moving to the beat in my rear view mirror. This makes me very happy, as I also love slow jam hiphop! Here's to hoping the boy has rhythm. #hegetitfromhismama

3) Creole/Cajun food is my all time favorite! I could eat it all day, everyday, and would move to New Orleans in less than a second if the opportunity presented itself. Gimme all the seafood, roux-based sauces and spice in the world, and keep it comin'!

4) Texas is my favorite place I've ever lived. And I've lived in many places. I used to make fun of it when I was a pretentious Minneapolisite because being pretentious and hating on Texas is what Minneapolisite's do, amongst other annoying things. Now that Texas smacked the pretentious out of me, I've come to realize there's a reason everyone loves it here, and people have so much pride in Tejas. It's because it's freakin' awesome. The food, the people, the weather, the cities, everything. #Texaspride

5) I could sleep for 12 hours, every single night. I love sleep, but hate to nap - I'm not a napper. Naps make me groggy. I'm a nighttime only sleeper. Which doesn't work well with babies. I'm still trying to figure that one out.
