3 DIY Home Improvements To Consider

There are so many projects you can tackle yourself to make your house look better! Some are big time consumers while others are fairly easy. Either way, owning a home means you're working on it on the weekends, I'm learning.

Here are some of the best DIY projects we've done in our house over the past two weeks:

Install a new light fixture. There wasn't even a light there to begin with, so we wired it and cut into the faux beam to hang it and added a light switch on the wall for it. This was a whole day project and definitely a more "advanced" DIY project, but if you already have the wiring in place it's a pretty easy task.

Paint. The half bath and the guest baths got facelifts. Do you remember the horrific lime green our guest bath was before? Bye-bye, eyesore.

Upgrade technology. We put in a surround sound system in the ceiling of the living room and outdoor speakers on the patio. Now, everything is wireless! This one was all hubs and my step dad. Why are sound systems so interesting to dudes?

The cost savings in DIY home projects is phenomenal, but the downside is the time commitment. Have you ever done any DIY projects around your house to spruce it up and make some great changes?

  1. Yay for surround sound! We have a bar and a separate unit in the back of our living room to simulate surround sound because we can't make that upgrade to our apartment :P. It's worth it!

I love that light fixture! Great job. And YAY no more green bathroom!

  2. I'm impressed with the sound system! We have the worst sound in our house and we have to turn the tv up so loud just to hear but then people in the kitchen get it blasted. Basically we need to get on it as a DIY project. And the new bathroom looks great!

  3. You guys have been busy! Six months after we bought our first house my husband's job was transferred so we almost immediately started prepping it to put it back on the market. It was a fixer-upper (mostly cosmetic stuff), and we spent a lot of time doing DIY projects there, so much so that it burned off all my DIY energy for our current house. I never wanted to paint or replace a light fixture ever again. Luckily where we are now, things are mostly updated, but I do have some things I'd like to change. We DIY a lot, but there are some projects (like our new front door) that we leave to the pros. LOVE that light fixture and I'm so jealous of your sound system. We play music a lot so I'd love to be able to hook up a playlist and be able to hear it throughout the whole house.

  4. These are three ideas that don't take a ton of time, but make a big difference! A wireless sound system would be so great! I need to keep that in mind for when I move.

  5. Glad you got rid of that green. Next in that bathroom you need a nice framed in mirror! :)
And good for you guys with the wired in surround sound! The hubs can only dream I'd let him do that. :)

  6. Yes yes yes to paint!! It's amazing how much it can transform a space! Although I'm pretty sick of it after doing almost our entire house... we have two rooms left and I'm totally dragging my feet!

  8. Are you kidding me?! That is not even the same bathroom. Major upgrade, for sure. Love the light fixture you picked, and your wall thingies (technical term). I don't know why guys find electrical things so interesting but if it gets you surround sound, then who cares?

  9. Oh those speakers are perfect. I haven't attempted a house DIY yet, but I did just complete my first children's toy DIY I'm super proud of - glammed up alphabet wood blocks.

  10. I love doing DIY stuff at home - sadly we can't really do anything to our apt since we rent, but we do it with furniture LOL! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
